Amber {School Is a Happy Place}

Hi all.
I'm Amber from School is a Happy Place.

School is a Happy Place

I've been teaching since 2000.  Most of those years have been in a first grade classroom.  I have been married since 2000 as well.  (Apparently, Y2K was my lucky year.)  We have one daughter who is also in first grade.  We stay super busy and have a lot of fun together.

I started blogging nearly two years ago, after finding so much inspiration from many other teacher/blogger/authors.  In addition to teaching, blogging, and creating, I spend time volunteering though my church and fit in exercise (almost) daily.

I'm really happy to be a part of Primary Powers.  There are some really outstanding educators contributing to this blog.  I know it's going to be an fabulous resource.
Speaking of resources, I have a fabulous and FREE resource for you.  It's my Super Student of the Week packet.

This packet includes simple to use printables and ideas for celebrating each student in your class with his/her own special week.  Click here for your own copy.

Students love a chance to have a little extra attention.  Having a scheduled student of the week is a perfect way to make sure all your young learners get to be in the spotlight.
Thanks for stopping by.
Best.

CaseyJane from Wiggling Scholars

I am beyond excited to be part of this amazing blog! These bloggers are amazing people and I am certain you will love hearing what makes their teaching powerful.

I am a born and raised Wisconsinite... and incredibly cheesy (pun SO intended)! I have been married to Mr. Wiggling Scholars for 6 fabulous years. We spend our free-time enjoying computers and rock climbing.

This is my 8th year of teaching and still get that giddy feeling when I walk into the building (most days). I have been in kindergarten and first grade all 8 years. I truly love spending time getting to know each child and figuring out how I can make learning valuable to every student.

I've got a freebie for you! Graphing is always tricky this time of the year and I'm constantly looking for a way to give my students more practice. You can turn your graphers into Super Graphers!

Thank you for stopping by Primary Powers! Be sure to check back often. We have lots of great bloggers still to come!

I'd love for you to check out my blog, Wiggling Scholars!

Angela {The Daily Alphabet}

Hey guys and dolls, how's it going?
I'm Angela from The Daily Alphabet.
The Daily Alphabet
I'm so excited to be a part of this amazing group of bloggers, that I just get chills thinking about it!

Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
This is my 7th year of teaching, 4th in Kindergarten.
My first three years of teaching were in 1st grade,
at the same school.
I thought that I was going to miss 1st grade when I switched, and I still do sometimes,
but my heart belongs in Kindergarten, so I'm here to stay!!
I LOVE to read books, I'm slightly addicted to them,
and I also play the piano.
Although I like to do crafts, I'm not that crafty, I just like to pretend that I am!!
Ok, the snapshot kind of says it all, I can hear a lot of things,
especially whispering, and I LOVE mini Babybel cheese!
Well, actually, I love any kind of cheese, with the exception of blue cheese!
I'm so glad that you came by to meet me today, and that I got a chance to chat with you!
Here is a freebie just for you! It's all about word families,
 and it provides a great opportunity for students to practice! I hope you enjoy!

Aimee {Primarily Speaking}

Hey everyone!  I'm Aimee from Primarily Speaking.

I am SUPER excited to be a part of this collaborative blog!  Primary Powers is your source for all things primary!  If you ask me, all teachers are superheroes, so we sure do hope you visit our blog regularly to recharge those superhero powers as we share ideas, tips and tricks, and much more!

Here's a bit about me...I have been teaching for 10 years.  Thankfully, all of those years have been spent in second grade! The idea of any other grade level sends me into panic mode.  Literally.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have a five year old daughter who is quite headstrong when she wants to be.  We enjoy hanging out at home, playing with squirt guns, and eating out at our favorite restaurants.  If we're feeling really crazy, we might even rent a movie. What can I say, we know how to party!

I love chips and salsa.  I really, really do. I've been known to munch on them as I cook dinner.  Don't tell the healthy eating police, please.  And, as far as I'm concerned, one can never drink too much coffee.  Well, OK, I suppose that isn't entirely true, but without that stuff at my fingertips, I wouldn't make it through the day.

Now that you know a bit about me, it's time to share something SUPER with you!  If you're looking for a fun way to motivate your students to write, give these superhero Roll-a-Story boards a try!  My students love, love, love them, and I hope yours do too!

Toodles!

Lizz {Learning with Lizz R.}

Hi Everyone! I am SUPER excited to be a part of Primary Powers each month!

 I'm Elizabeth "Lizz" Rossmiller from Learning with Lizz R. (formerly Seconds at the Beach).

My blog started as a second grade blog when I was teaching on the Oregon Coast, but now I am happily teaching first grade in the Portland area.

I have been teaching primary kiddos for 6 years and love, love, love what I do!

I would've never thought I would become a 1st grade teacher. I thought I wanted to be an upper elementary teacher.

When I applied for my first teaching position, I applied to be a 6th grade teacher (crazy, right?). Lucky for me, the principal told me I was meant to be a primary teacher and offered me a position teaching 3rd grade. I gladly accepted the offer and have been teaching in primary land ever since.

It takes a lot to keep up with firsties! I help my kiddos build their learning stamina at the beginning of the school year, but truth be told, I'm working on my stamina, too! I am a busy girl this year! In addition to teaching and blogging, I am earning a degree in Ed Leadership, creating learning materials for teachers, and am on many after school committees.

I can't get enough of buffalo sauce! I mean, I could literally put it on everything I eat! I can't pass-up some good buffalo wings!

Nothing makes me happier than my smiling first graders! I love how sweet my kiddos are; it makes my job so much easier :-)

And, now... To the FREEBIE!

I want my firsties to be as sweet as can be!
 We work hard to build a strong classroom community.
Each month, we focus on one character trait and reinforce this character trait throughout the month.
At the end of the month, a student is rewarded for displaying the trait of the month.
Character education has really helped my kiddos work together peacefully!

I created some SUPER Character Trait Printables to display in your classroom.

I hang each trait up on my classroom wall and add a photo of the student who has earned the award for that trait. The kids love seeing their friends on our superhero wall!

Enjoy!
You can find me sharing more ideas and freebies on my blog, Learning with Lizz R., and on Facebook!
I hope you stop by, grab some freebies, follow me, and say, "Hello!"

Leslie {First Grade Frenzy}

Hey Everyone!

I'm Leslie from First Grade Frenzy, and I am sooooooooooo excited (and a wee bit nervous!) to be a part of this new blogging adventure, with all of these SUPER amazing bloggers and teachers!

Here is a little bit about me:

I am a first grade teacher from Montreal, Quebec, CANADA! (EH?!!!!!!). It's starting to get cold up here ... but no snow is in the forecast ... YET!! I am a mommy to four SUPER children (My oldest is 7, and my youngest just turned 1!!! YIKES!!!).  I have been married to my soul mate ... Mr. Leslie ... for 8 unbelievable  years!  I'm always at an arena ... somewhere ... in this province ... watching my boys play hockey (I'm a very proud hockey mama!) or cheering on my daughter during her figure skating shows (I have now come to terms with the fact, that I am the LOUDEST mama there!). Life is slightly insane right now, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

There is something about teaching first grade that electrifies me. I can't exactly explain it ... but I feel like a better person when I teach. It completes me. I love it! It's simply my "PASSION".  My classroom is ZEN, especially with some of the amazing chaos at home ... these days!

I must confess ... I am a potato chip addict ... I LOVE CHIPS! Eating them makes me ... HAPPY! I don't have just one favorite flavor.. I love them all ... I can eat them for breakfast or for supper ... ANY.TIME.OF.THE.DAY!!!! It's serious ...

My second obsession is with word walls ... no joke ... I love me, my word walls ... I'm sure that all of you do, too! That's why I created this Super Hero Word Wall! Just click on the picture below to grab your copy!

To Infinity and Beyond!

Tania {My Second Sense}

Hello Super Friends!

I am Tania from My Second Sense.  I am honored to be blogging here with  all these amazing super girls.

Let me tell you a little bit about my super powers:

I am able to be super fast when caffeine kicks in. Believe it or not I discovered caffeine about two years ago.  I really do not know how I survived prior to getting super powers from coffee!  I can get mostly everything  done on my daily to do list ( I make them very short - that is my secret).  I am a night owl, and everyone else is the house likes mornings. Not me!  I love my sleep more than anything else.

This is my eleventh year teaching, and I continue to be as passionate about my job, as I did the first day I stepped into my first classroom.  I taught second grade for ten years at two amazing public schools.  I was feeling adventurous this year, so I switched to a private school and I am currently teaching third grade.

I am currently a mom, a wife, a friend, a blogger, a grad student, a full time teacher, a tutor, and everything else I can.  I may not do a very good job with all these titles, but I try :) You see why I need lots of coffee?

Ready for a Freebie?  Please come by and grab it {here}.

Thank you for visiting today!  Stay tuned to meet the rest of the super girls.  We have lots of fun things for you.

Don't forget to stop by my blog My Second Sense and become a follower. I'd love to see you there.

Jeannine {Creative Lesson Cafe}

Hi everyone! It's Jeannine from Creative Lesson Cafe. I am beyond excited to begin this SUPER new blogging adventure with so many amazing teachers here at Primary Powers!

Photobucket
Here is a little bit about me...

I teach second grade at my neighborhood school in the great state of Michigan! I also mentor student teachers in their mission to become superteachers! :)  It's an amazing feeling to be able to experience the magic of learning. Teaching is the best job in the whole world! This is my 25th year as a classroom teacher. Wow!

I am a busy mom to one incredible 16 year old. When I can drag him away from homework or gaming with his buds... we like to do simple things like hang out at the outdoor mall or go out to eat. The two of us love summer vacation and anything having to do with fun in the sun!

You might have guessed that I LOVE coffee. I also like to play around with graphics to make cute decorations and creative activities for my classroom. That is how this whole adventure started!!!

Enough about ME...Let's talk about my kiddos! Of all of the things that my second graders need to master, math fact fluency is the thing they struggle with most.
 I like to mix up their practice to make them think it's a game and not work!
 It's my superpower~ mind control!

My class really enjoys a chance to get up and move, so I started creating some Scoot activities.
 They can also be used as task cards at centers or for fast finishers.

Presenting...Superhero Subtraction Scoot!

I have two versions to share with you today!

To grab a copy of the level you would like for your class, just click on one of the pictures!

I sure would love to see you ZOOM on over to my Creative Lesson Cafe blog and follow my classroom adventures there too.
 Stop back here every day to meet the rest of the PRIMARY POWERS!
 I can't wait to see what INCREDIBLE things are coming our way!

In case you missed it, be sure to enter the huge giveaway we are having to celebrate our new blog!

Until next time... Go out and save the world- one child at a time!
:)
